The eligibility rule of the contest required applicants to create a project of innovative program, applications to solve modern life problems or an original game based on a Microsoft platforms. According to the results “Neftchi” team won the contest and will participate in the next phase of contest held in Kiev. In this phase the team will have an opportunity to compete for a prize of 100,000 USD.

“Neftchi” team is comprised of the students of Baku Higher Oil School – Karim Karimov, Lala Mammadova and Shamil Omarov, as well as, the student of Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University Sabuhi Talibov. They have developed a special application on a Windows Azure which allows customers of cafes and restaurant to choose a desired background song. Users that are located in the same venue can vote for the various musical genres via specially designed map embedded in the application. The application will be free for users and paid for the owners of cafes and restaurants.

Microsoft Imagine Cup is considered one of the widest innovation contest held amongst the university students of the world. The main aim of the contest is to reveal the talents and to pave a way for their future as experts.
